The system is engineered to seamlessly support upcoming software upgrades and AI-powered experiences, ensuring that BMW vehicles remain at the forefront of innovation.

Enhanced Efficiency with a Smarter Wiring Harness
One of the standout features of this new digital system is the simplified wiring architecture. By introducing a zonal wiring system, BMW has reduced wiring length by 600 meters and achieved a 30% weight reduction compared to previous models. The vehicle is divided into four zones: front end, center, rear, and roof, each connected to the Superbrains through high-speed data links. This innovative approach streamlines data transmission, improving both efficiency and responsiveness.
Smart eFuses: The Future of Energy Management
A key enabler of this streamlined architecture is the introduction of Smart eFuses—digital fuses that replace up to 150 traditional fuses. These intelligent components allow for digital control of power distribution, optimizing energy use in different vehicle states such as driving, parking, charging, and upgrading. This advancement contributes to a 20% improvement in overall energy efficiency, making the Neue Klasse a leader in eco-conscious driving.
Seamless Software Development for Continuous Innovation
BMW’s commitment to continuous software development is central to the Neue Klasse. Unlike traditional models that require complete software redevelopment with each new generation, BMW’s latest vehicles will benefit from ongoing software updates via over-the-air upgrades.
"With the introduction of the Neue Klasse, we are entering a mode of software development where we achieve software continuity. This means we continuously develop software rather than starting from scratch each time," explains Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of BMW Group Electronics and Software.
BMW’s software architecture includes over 1,000 software modules, 20 GB of software, and 500 million lines of code. To facilitate efficient development, BMW has introduced "CodeCraft," a cloud-based software toolchain that runs on up to 75,000 virtual CPUs. This infrastructure supports over 10,000 software developers worldwide and records up to 200,000 software builds daily, marking a 130-fold productivity increase over the past decade.
