In a spectacular debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the revitalized 2024 Kia Sorento asserts its dominance in the midsize three-row SUV segment. Boasting a confident exterior redesign, an upgraded premium interior infused with next-generation technology, and the introduction of the X-Pro variant for outdoor enthusiasts, the 2024 Sorento represents a harmonious blend of style, innovation, and adventure.
Steven Center, COO and EVP of Kia America, emphasized the Sorento's pivotal role in the success of Kia's SUV lineup, especially with the introduction of the X-Line model series. The newly added Sorento X-Pro further amplifies its capabilities, combining Kia's latest tech and design refinements to not only lead the segment but surge ahead of it.
Expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2024, the 2024 Sorento will be available in LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-P trims, with the X-Line featured on EX and above, and the X-Pro exclusively on SX-P. Anticipated Sorento HEV and PHEV models as 2025 models are set to arrive later next year.
The Sorento's revamped design draws inspiration from Kia's "Opposites United" philosophy and the concept of "Bold for Nature." A confident stance is achieved with an upright front hood, squared-off edges, and distinctive amber daytime running lights, creating a sleek and modern aesthetic. The rear features vertical taillamps inspired by the award-winning Telluride, with a broad and rectangular front grille borrowed from the EV9. The Star Map lighting elements and a wider skid plate garnish add a futuristic and rugged appeal.
Inside the cabin, horizontal features create modern aesthetic, while an available panoramic curved display with dual 12.3-inch screens enhances the interior's transformation. The Sorento now offers exterior color options like Midnight Lake Blue and Dawning Red, with the HEV and PHEV versions featuring a lush Dust Blue interior.
For those seeking rugged flair, the X-Line introduces enhancements like a center-locking differential, bridge-type roof rack, X-Line front and rear bumpers, and a unique gloss-black front grille. The X-Pro takes capability to the next level with standard 17-inch wheels, BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and increased towing capacity up to 4,000 lbs., ideal for elevated camping adventures.
Both the X-Line and X-Pro cater to the growing popularity of earth-toned elements, offering rich interior color combinations in Olive Brown and Sage hues. The matte, open-pore wood garnish inside the cabin enhances the overall premium feel. Exterior options include the alluring Jungle Green and the unique Roadrider Brown.
Building on the success of the EV9, the Sorento introduces Kia's next-gen Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system. The system allows for faster processing, higher fidelity, and over-the-air updates. USB-C ports throughout the cabin ensure devices stay charged, while wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard on all trims.
The advanced Digital Key 2.0 allows virtual vehicle keys using compatible smart devices. The Sorento's tech upgrades also include Smart Cruise Control-Machine Learning, Highway Driving Assist 2, Digital Camera Mirror, and Surround-View Monitor for an enhanced driving experience.
The Sorento, available in FWD or AWD, maintains its composed ride and performance. The LX and S trims feature a 2.5-liter I-4 GDI engine, while upper trims deliver a power boost with a 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 GDI. Active on-demand all-wheel drive enhances driving performance, providing stability in various conditions.
