Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled plans to introduce a Salik toll gate at the Business Bay Crossing, set to commence operations in November 2024. This strategic move aligns with RTA's comprehensive plan to enhance road networks, integrate public transport, and upgrade technical road systems, emphasizing the commitment to reduce private vehicle reliance.
Additionally, the RTA announced the installation of the Al Safa South Toll Gate on Sheikh Zayed Road, further optimizing traffic management. Both gates are expected to be fully operational by November 2024, coinciding with the completion of the Al Khail Road Improvement Project.
These developments are part of RTA's efforts to streamline traffic flow by redirecting vehicles to alternative routes, promoting the use of public transport, and easing congestion on key roads. The Business Bay Crossing Gate, in particular, aims to divert traffic from Jebel Ali towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Emirates Roads, reducing congestion on Al Khail Road and improving travel times.
The new toll gates are not only strategic in optimizing traffic service levels but also contribute to RTA's wider goal of encouraging environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Toll gate policies have proven effective, reducing total travel time in Dubai, decreasing traffic volumes on key bridges, and increasing mass transit users significantly.
As part of its commitment to advanced infrastructure, RTA has already completed mega projects valued at over AED 146 billion. These projects include the world's longest driverless metro network, the Dubai Tram, and an extensive bus fleet. The continuous expansion of road networks, bridges, and tunnels reflects Dubai's dedication to providing a seamless and efficient transportation system.
Looking ahead, RTA has ambitious plans for 2024, including awarding contracts for the Dubai Metro Blue Line project and completing vital road projects such as Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement and Umm Suqeim Street Improvement. The emphasis on future trends, including soft and shared mobility, digital transformation, and self-driving transport, positions Dubai as a pioneer in the global transportation landscape.
Dubai's commitment to sustainable development, coupled with its proactive approach to transportation innovation, ensures that the city remains at the forefront of modern urban planning and mobility solutions. Stay tuned for the transformation of Dubai's transport system, driving progress towards a more connected and sustainable future.
