Exclusive and Individual: Porsche 911 GT2 - Coppa Florio

The Porsche 911 GT2, specifically the Coppa Florio, is a standout in the Porsche world. Despite its rarity, a quick search combining "Coppa Florio" and "Porsche" reveals its presence through official factory photos, casual snapshots, and even 1:18-scale models. The reality of this car, however, surpasses its digital representations.

In 1996, a Porsche enthusiast and textile manufacturer from Baden commissioned a highly customized version of the 993-generation 911. Choosing the Turbo-based GT2, already the most extreme and expensive car in Porsche's lineup with a base price of nearly 280,000 Deutschmarks, this decision marked a significant statement.

Twin Turbos and Rear-Wheel Drive

The Porsche 911 GT2 was designed for recreational motorsport, blending road usability with track-ready technology. Developed in 1994, it combined the best components: a twin-turbo flat-six engine from the 993 Turbo boosted to 430 PS, a front spoiler and lightweight door panels from the RS, and replaceable plastic wheel arch extensions. The distinctive rear wing provided downforce and airflow to the charge-air coolers while also supplying intake air through lateral openings.

Lightweight Construction

Weight reduction was central to the GT2 concept. Shedding the driven front axle of the regular 993 Turbo, it featured no rear seats or rear wiper, an aluminum boot lid and doors, and thinner rear and side windows, shaving off 205 kilograms and increasing top speed from 290 to 295 km/h. Despite these modifications, the price soared to more than 50,000 Deutschmarks above a standard 911 Turbo.

A Unique and Highly Exclusive Configuration

The GT2 maintained its status as the most powerful and fastest Porsche model until the 993 Turbo WLS slightly surpassed it. By 1998, the GT2's power was upgraded to 450 PS, aligning it with the Turbo S. Despite some crossover within the 993 series, no other 911 matched the GT2's standout position, with just 172 units produced initially and 21 in the second series. The GT2 was the founder of the GT series Porsches and the last with air cooling, solidifying its iconic status.

The Coppa Florio variant, uniquely painted in a pastel light-blue (code 360), originated from the 911 G-Series of 1976/77. This GT2 featured the same color on the centers of its Speedline wheels and a high-contrast Can-Can Red leather interior.

Full Leather Package and Custom Features

The GT2 redefined full leather equipment, covering everything from the boot lid release and ignition lock surround to the light switch, radio, rear-view mirror, and instrument rings in bespoke Can-Can Red leather. Even the ignition key, housed in a matching customized case, and sports driving gloves were made from the same leather.

Nicknamed "Wölkchen" (Little Cloud) for its airy, sky-blue paintwork, the GT2 lacked modern comforts like air conditioning, airbags, and power windows, retaining its status as a true driver’s car.
