How to Register Your Car in Dubai

June 10, 2023

Registering your car in Dubai is an essential process that ensures your vehicle is legally recognized and authorized for use on the roads. If you are resident or planning to live in Dubai, it's important to familiarize yourself with the car registration procedure. This step by step guide will walk you through the process of registering your cars in Dubai.

- Before registering your car in Dubai, you must have valid car insurance. Dubai requires all vehicles to be insured for third party liability coverage at minimum. Contact an insurance provider authorized by the UAE Insurance Authority to purchase the appropriate insurance coverage for your vehicle.

- Take your car to an authorized vehicle testing center for a comprehensive inspection. The inspection checks the car's safety, roadworthiness, and compliance with Dubai regulations. If your vehicle passes the inspection, you'll receive Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR), which is necessary for the registration process.

- Locate the nearest Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Customer Happiness Center. Take all the required documents and visit the registration section. Be prepared for potential wait times, especially during peak hours.

- Submit the following documents to the RTA representative:

  1. Vehicle Registration Application Form: Obtain the form at the RTA center or download it from the RTA website. Fill it out with accurate information.
  2. Original Emirates ID: Present your Emirates ID as proof of identification.
  3. Original Vehicle Registration Card (Mulkiya): Provide the current Mulkiya for your vehicle.
  4. Valid Car Insurance Certificate: Submit the insurance certificate obtained in Step 1.
  5. Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR): Provide the VIR obtained from the authorized vehicle testing center.
  6. Ownership Transfer Certificate (if applicable): If you recently purchased the vehicle, provide the ownership transfer certificate.
  7. Proof of Payment: Carry sufficient funds to cover the registration fees, which vary based on the vehicle's type and specifications.

- Once the RTA representative verifies your documents, you'll be provided with a payment voucher. Proceed to the payment counter and settle the registration fees. Ensure you have the necessary funds or payment method available.

- After paying the fees, return to the RTA representative to collect the registration documents. These will include your new Mulkiya (vehicle registration card), registration sticker, and any additional documents provided by the RTA.

- Carefully affix the registration sticker to your vehicle's rear license plate as instructed. The sticker serves as visual indication that your car is registered and legally permitted for use on the roads.

It's important to note that the car registration process may have additional requirements or variations depending on the specific circumstances. Therefore it is  advisable to visit the RTA website or contact an RTA Customer Happiness Center for the most accurate and up to date information.

By following these steps and ensuring that you have all the required documents and fees in order, you can successfully register your car in Dubai. Adhering to the registration process ensures that your vehicle is legally recognized and compliant with Dubai's regulations. Drive responsibly and enjoy your journey on the roads of Dubai.
