Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2s Conquer the Sebring 12 Hours with Resilience
Lamborghini Squadra Corse faced a tough challenge at the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, as the grueling 12 Hours of Sebring tested the endurance and determination of all three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 teams. Despite setbacks, all three cars made it to the finish line, showcasing the brand’s resilience and engineering excellence.
Tough Battle for the Huracán GT3 EVO2 Teams
The #9 Pfaff Motorsports Huracán GT3 EVO2, driven by Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli, and James Hinchcliffe, demonstrated impressive perseverance, securing a 10th-place finish despite multiple setbacks. Meanwhile, the #78 Forte Racing entry, piloted by Mario Farnbacher, Misha Goikhberg, and Parker Kligerman, showed strong pace early on but was hindered by a puncture that cost them a potential top-five finish. The #45 WTR Huracán, featuring Danny Formal, Trent Hindman, and Graham Doyle, also faced early brake issues but pushed through to complete the race in 14th place.
Setbacks for the Lamborghini SC63 in the GTP Class
In the highly competitive GTP class, the Lamborghini SC63 showed improved performance compared to its Daytona outing. Romain Grosjean, Mirko Bortolotti, and Daniil Kvyat took the #63 machine into the fight, with Grosjean making a strong start. However, a mid-race exhaust issue forced the team to retire for safety reasons with three hours remaining. Despite this disappointment, the team remained optimistic about the car’s potential in future races.
Qualifying Challenges and Race Performance
Lamborghini’s GTD and GTD Pro entries faced challenges from the outset, with all three Huracán GT3 EVO2s struggling with added weight affecting braking stability. Despite qualifying hurdles, the #9 car fought its way into the top four early in the race, only to encounter torque sensor issues and a pit lane injury for Hinchcliffe that led to a drop in track position.
In GTD, the #78 machine ran as high as third before a puncture forced an unscheduled pit stop, ultimately finishing 12th. The #45 car suffered an early brake issue, losing laps and finishing 14th, but the team’s determination ensured they saw the checkered flag.
Lamborghini's Spirit of Endurance
While the Sebring 12 Hours posed numerous obstacles for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the endurance and fighting spirit of the teams ensured that all three Huracán GT3 EVO2s crossed the finish line. With valuable lessons learned, Lamborghini remains focused on upcoming races, aiming to turn potential into podiums.
