Lamborghini Squadra Corse has introduced the SC20, a one-of-a-kind open-top track car that has been type-approved for road use. This remarkable vehicle is the second bespoke creation engineered by Lamborghini's motorsport department and designed by the Centro Stile in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The SC20 was developed in close collaboration with a customer who was involved in the project from the initial sketches to the final touches by Lamborghini’s designers.
The objective was clear: to craft a unique car that merges extreme design with exceptional performance. This goal was achieved by incorporating aerodynamic solutions from racing Lamborghinis with innovative lines and exclusive details. “Two years after the SC18 Alston, the SC20 was a new, intriguing challenge. The chief sources of inspiration were the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster, and Concept S, and the result is a dramatic combination of creativity and racing attitude,” said Mitja Borkert, Head of Design at Lamborghini Centro Stile.
The SC20's carbon fiber body was meticulously polished and smoothed by hand by Lamborghini's aerodynamic engineers. This process ensures optimal airflow for both performance and comfort during high-speed, open-air driving. The front splitter is accentuated by two fins, and the air intakes on the front hood draw inspiration from the Huracán GT3 EVO. The sculpted body sides reflect solutions adopted on the Essenza SCV12, while the muscular rear is dominated by a large carbon fiber wing that can be adjusted to Low, Medium, and High Load settings.
The SC20 boasts unique features, starting with its body color—a custom Bianco Fu (white) base enhanced by a striking Blu Cepheus (blue) livery. This blue hue is also used in the interior, complementing the Nero Cosmus (black) and Bianco Leda (white) accents. The passenger compartment features visible carbon fiber on the dashboard cover, rear wall, door panels, center console, and steering wheel trim, along with the monocoque. The seats, upholstered in Alcantara and leather, also feature carbon fiber shells. Additionally, the door handles are crafted from solid aluminum, and the air vents were produced using advanced 3D printing technology at Lamborghini's factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technical Officer at Automobili Lamborghini, described the SC20 as “a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness, and advanced design. It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbon fiber to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA.”
Powering the SC20 is Lamborghini’s flagship V12 engine—a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter twelve-cylinder that produces 770 CV at 8,500 rpm and 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. This powerful engine is paired with an optimized seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox, delivering power to the ground through a four-wheel-drive system with a central electronic differential. The car rides on Pirelli PZero Corsa tires mounted on single-nut aluminum rims, 20 inches in the front and 21 inches at the rear.
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, remarked, “The SC20 is a technical and styling exercise that merges Squadra Corse's experience with Lamborghini design, masterfully interpreted by our Centro Stile based on the customer’s wishes, which was the focus of the project throughout the entire vehicle development and construction process.”
