In a remarkable continuation of the two-decade-long partnership between Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian "Polizia di Stato," the prestigious carmaker has presented a Lamborghini Urus Performante to the Italian Highway Police, slated to commence its duty in 2024. The ceremonial handover took place on Tuesday, December 12, in Rome at Piazza del Viminale, just outside the Ministry of the Interior headquarters. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, handed over the keys to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, in the presence of Head of Police, Vittorio Pisani.
Since the initiation of collaboration in 2004, this marks the sixth Lamborghini model to join the Highway Police fleet, reinforcing the enduring partnership. The Urus Performante, a Super SUV, will play a vital role in special services, particularly urgent medical transport missions involving the swift conveyance of organs and plasma.
Stephan Winkelmann expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It is with great pleasure that we are continuing our twenty-year co-operation with the Italian State Police. Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives, can only make me and the whole company proud. These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy.”
The Urus Performante underwent meticulous customization by Lamborghini technicians at Sant’Agata Bolognese, adhering to police specifications. The exterior was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile, featuring the classic blue color of the Italian State Police, complemented by white and tricolor bands on the sills and seat belt. Reflective police logos adorn the doors, while a roof-mounted light bar with 360° blue LED lights and a two-tone electric siren enhances its visibility.
Inside, the cockpit is equipped with essential elements for public security services, including an armored weapon box, a flip-down message display, and a specialized trunk compartment for storing service equipment and a defibrillator for immediate first aid response. A portable fridge, complete with a display and data logger for continuous temperature monitoring during organ transportation, further underscores the Urus Performante's capabilities.
Under the hood the Urus Performante boasts twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering an impressive 666 CV of power and 850 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and achieves a top speed of 306 km/h, solidifying its position as a high-performance production SUV. This exceptional performance, coupled with best in class driving dynamics, previously enabled the Urus Performante to set the record for the fastest time by production SUV at the renowned Pikes Peak Hillclimb.
