McLaren Artura GT4 Triumphs at Daytona with Accelerating Performance Team
The McLaren Artura GT4 celebrated an impressive victory at Daytona this weekend (January 24), as the Accelerating Performance team clinched first place in the four-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race. This remarkable achievement comes two years after the Artura GT4’s successful race debut at the same legendary track, further cementing McLaren’s reputation for high-performance motorsport engineering.
A Thrilling Victory at Daytona The race was fiercely contested, with the Accelerating Performance team displaying exceptional strategy and skill. Drivers Moisey Uretsky and Michael Cooper qualified in fifth place among a competitive 43-car grid. Uretsky took the wheel first, driving an outstanding 2 hours and 40 minutes before handing over to Cooper.
As Cooper re-entered the track with 80 minutes left, he started from eighth place but steadily climbed through the ranks. The final hour of racing was an adrenaline-fueled battle, with the Artura GT4 fighting for every inch on Daytona’s punishing 31-degree banking. With just two laps to go, Cooper executed a masterful overtaking maneuver exiting turn six, securing first place and crossing the finish line victorious. The moment was even more special as this was the Accelerating Performance team’s debut race with the Artura GT4.
Driver and Team Reactions An emotional Moisey Uretsky described the experience: “Unbelievable. I don't have any words. My heart's beating, and I have no idea what's happening! That was the longest stint I’ve ever done. I love McLaren, and it has been great working with them. This victory is 100,000 million percent due to the team.”
Michael Cooper, who delivered the decisive final laps, praised the Artura GT4’s capabilities: “It’s an amazing GT4 car. Moisey did an incredible job, handing me a clean car, which allowed me to fight my way to the front. I saw an opportunity when Jan [Heylen] struggled in the slow corners, and I made my move through turn six. It worked perfectly.”
McLaren Automotive’s Director of Motorsport, Ian James, celebrated the win: “To win in your first race with the car at a prestigious track like Daytona is truly special. Congratulations to Moisey, Michael, and the entire Accelerating Performance team.”
