Alfa Romeo is thrilled to announce its participation in the prestigious “Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este,” the world’s most exclusive vintage car event. Taking place from May 24 to 26 at Lake Como, this event, first held in 1929, unfolds in the stunning gardens of the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este and Villa Erba in Cernobbio. Each year, around 50 exceptional models compete in various categories, judged by a panel of experts. Since 2002, a special prize has recognized the most captivating prototypes, bridging the past and future of automotive design.
Competing for the coveted Design Concept Award, the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale exemplifies the brand’s prowess in style and driving experience. With only 33 units made, this exclusive two-seater coupé merges heritage and innovation, crafted through a meticulous artisanal process that meets the highest quality standards. The new 33 Stradale continues the legacy of the legendary 1967 33 Stradale, drawing inspiration from the Tipo 33, a star of 1960s motorsport.
The 2024 edition of the Concorso d'Eleganza is packed with excitement. The competing cars will arrive at Villa d'Este on Friday, May 24, followed by an exclusive gala dinner. The next day features an exhibition for experts and insiders, where the first prizes will be awarded. On Sunday, May 26, the event opens to the public at Villa Erba, where visitors can vote for their favorite car. The festival concludes with a parade of rare vintage cars and futuristic concept vehicles.
An Iconic Location in Alfa Romeo’s History
Alfa Romeo’s deep connection with the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is rooted in the close ties between Milan, Alfa Romeo’s birthplace, and Lake Como, a historic showcase of Italian excellence. This bond has endured, making the Concorso d'Eleganza a perfect stage for Alfa Romeo’s vintage and concept cars, which have frequently been awarded for their elegance and innovation.
Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale: Daring to Dream
Creating the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale required boldness and vision, mirroring the spirit that created the original 1967 model, considered one of the most beautiful cars ever. The new 33 Stradale, a masterpiece of beauty and technology, aims to provide an exhilarating driving experience and immortal charm to a select group of enthusiasts. This bespoke car was developed at the Alfa Romeo “Bottega,” where designers, engineers, and historians collaborated with the 33 buyers to tailor each vehicle to their preferences, much like Renaissance artisan workshops.
Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, renowned for its contributions to Alfa Romeo’s history, plays a key role in producing the new 33 Stradale. This project uniquely combines artisanal craftsmanship, technological innovation, and customer customization to create an unparalleled driving machine.
6C 2500 SS Villa d’Este
Among Alfa Romeo's most treasured models is the 6C 2500 SS “Villa d’Este,” one of the last Alfa Romeos built with a separate supporting frame. Only 36 of these custom-built masterpieces were produced from 1949 onwards. The 6C 2500 SS featured significant design changes, including a redesigned front, integrated headlights, and elegantly sporty interior. At the 1949 Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa d’Este, this car won the “Referendum Grand Prix,” awarded by public vote, cementing its status as a symbol of the event’s spirit.
