In a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle and foster sustainable transportation, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has joined forces with Careem Bike to provide free bikes for participants in the upcoming Dubai Ride cycling event. The collaborative initiative aims to make the cycling experience accessible to all, allowing residents and visitors without their own bikes to actively engage in the event.
As part of the collaboration, participants can avail themselves of free bikes from Careem's bike docking stations at strategic locations, including Entrance A - Museum of the Future (MOTF) on Trade Centre Street and Entrance E - Lower FCS on Financial Centre Road next to Roda Al Murooj Building A. The bikes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring inclusivity for all cycling enthusiasts.
For added convenience, participants also have the option to subscribe and rent a Careem Bike from any of the 192 stations across Dubai. Notably, overtime fees for rides exceeding 45 minutes will be waived during the event period. This initiative not only strengthens the partnership between RTA and Careem but also aligns with the broader goal of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transportation in the city.
Adel Shakeri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency and Head of the Sports Team in RTA, emphasized the significance of Dubai Ride in promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging the use of sustainable transportation. The partnership with Careem plays a crucial role in achieving strategic goals related to sustainability, health, safety, security, and customer happiness.
Bassel Al Nahlaoui, Managing Director of Mobility at Careem, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to RTA's mission by facilitating bike rentals at all 192 Careem Bike stations across Dubai. Careem Bike subscribers can access bikes at any station, with overtime fees waived during the Dubai Ride event, providing a seamless and eco-conscious cycling experience for participants.
To access a free bike for Dubai Ride, participants can download the Careem app, click on the 'Bike' icon, and subscribe to the 'Dubai Ride Pass' set at AED 00.00 on November 12, 2023, from 2:00 am until 7:30 am. Bikes can be picked up from designated pop-up stations near Entrance A - MOTF and Entrance E - Lower FCS, or from any of the 192 Careem Bike docking stations. All participants are required to bring their own helmets, register on the Dubai Ride website, and enter card details as a security measure, with no charges for borrowing the bikes.
The Dubai Ride event welcomes cyclists from the general public, commencing their journey at 6:30 am and concluding at 7:30 am. The collaboration with Careem Bike not only enhances the accessibility of the event but also encourages a broader audience to embrace the joys of cycling while contributing to a greener and healthier Dubai.
Dubbed as one of the largest pedal-assist bike-sharing networks globally, Careem Bike, launched in partnership with RTA, has been a sustainable transportation choice for residents and tourists alike since February 2020. The initiative has already made a significant environmental impact, displacing over 2,976,482 tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of 834 cars over the course of a year.
