The GR Lineup Heats Up with New Direct Automatic Transmission Option on Toyota’s GR Corolla
The Toyota GR Corolla has upped the excitement factor by offering both manual transmission enthusiasts and those who prefer the thrill of sports car driving with an automatic transmission the chance to enjoy an enhanced experience. The addition of the 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) with paddle shifters expands the versatility and appeal of the GR Corolla.
Pioneering Excellence
Since its reveal in 2022, the GR Corolla has pushed boundaries. Akio Toyoda, known as MORIZO, challenged the Toyota GAZOO Racing team to continuously innovate and improve their vehicles. This resulted in the creation of the first GR Corolla equipped with the new DAT, inspired by track driving and tested on some of the world's most rigorous courses, including Fuji International Speedway.
Enhanced Performance
The GR Corolla's 1.6-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine now boasts an increased torque of 295 lb.-ft. from the previous 273 lb.-ft. The new DAT features optimized software that anticipates optimal gear shifts based on the driver's inputs, enhancing the overall driving experience. This transmission not only allows for faster driving but also makes sports driving accessible to a wider range of drivers.
Design and Technology
Externally, the GR Corolla has received a redesign to accommodate additional cooling components while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency. Internally, the vehicle boasts new trim finishes that provide a dark, sporty ambiance and a pleasing tactile feel.
The GR Corolla will be available in three grades: Core, Premium, and the new Premium Plus. Each grade features enhancements like an automatic transmission fluid cooler, and optional sub-radiators for even greater cooling capability. The GR Corolla also includes the rally-developed GR-FOUR All-Wheel-Drive system, ensuring optimal traction and control.
Cutting-Edge Features
The GR Corolla offers an eight-inch digital gauge cluster and the Toyota Audio Multimedia system with an eight-inch touchscreen. This system includes voice activation, wireless Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™ compatibility, and allows for simultaneous dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity. With the addition of a Wi-Fi Connect subscription, the GR Corolla can serve as a hotspot for up to five devices.
Advanced Safety
Safety is paramount with the GR Corolla, which comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0). This suite includes features like the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Automatic High Beams.
