The BMW M Team WRT has recently undertaken extensive testing at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit, featuring the BMW M Hybrid V8 and the upcoming BMW M4 GT3 EVO. With eight BMW M works drivers sharing the testing responsibilities for both vehicles, this session marked a crucial phase in the development and refinement of these high-performance machines.

Behind the wheel of the BMW M Hybrid V8, drivers like Robin Frijns, Maxime Martin, René Rast, Marco Wittmann, and Nick Yelloly brought a wealth of experience to the testing. Yelloly, a regular driver, and Wittmann, with experience in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2023, contributed insights from the race outings of the LMDh prototype, enriching the overall testing process. Augusto Farfus, Jens Klingmann, and Bruno Spengler took on the testing duties for the BMW M4 GT3 EVO.

The focus of the BMW M Team WRT with the BMW M Hybrid V8 was on optimizing systems and performance. As the Belgian team continues to familiarize itself with the intricacies of the complex vehicle, progress is being made in understanding its capabilities and potential.

On the other front, the BMW M4 GT3 EVO is set to embark on an intensive testing phase. BMW M Motorsport plans to utilize the remainder of the 2023 season and the entirety of the 2024 season to refine the already highly successful BMW M4 GT3. The emphasis is on expanding vehicle functionalities, enhancing component reliability, improving handling for teams, and further enhancing drivability.

Reflecting on the testing, Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, expressed satisfaction with the progress made with the BMW M Hybrid V8 for the WEC entry. The dual experiences from race action in the IMSA series and testing in Europe prove beneficial for the teams and engineers. Additionally, the involvement of drivers like Marco Wittmann and Nick Yelloly, who are familiar with the BMW M Hybrid V8 from their North American race experiences, enhances the valuable synergy in the development process.

Looking ahead to the GT3 segment, Roos highlighted the early start on the EVO version of the BMW M4 GT3. The intentional approach to refining the model for the 2025 season aims at securing more years of victories and titles for drivers and teams in both the LMDh and GT3 categories.

Vincent Vosse, Team Principal of BMW M Team WRT, praised the successful three-day testing, emphasizing the importance of accumulating mileage and fine-tuning both the car and the team for the upcoming WEC season in 2024.

BMW M works driver Robin Frijns shared his excitement about being part of the BMW M Hybrid V8 project, acknowledging the complexity of the vehicle and expressing confidence in the progress made during the Spa-Francorchamps testing. Bruno Spengler, another BMW M works driver, emphasized his thrill in contributing to the development of the BMW M4 GT3 EVO from its early stages, highlighting improvements in drivability and performance.
